My Commitment as a Landscape Photographer
My name is Julien Delaval, a landscape photographer for several years. Through my lens, I strive to capture the essence of natural landscapes. Photographing mountains , forests or seasides is not just about creating a beautiful image. For me, it is about telling a scene, that of a place, a light, a unique moment. Each shot I take is the result of a reflection on the light, shapes, textures and emotions that I feel when faced with these landscapes . It is not just about capturing a moment, but about immortalizing an atmosphere, an encounter between raw nature and my artistic interpretation.

My Artistic Direction – Patience and Technique
Being a landscape photographer is a mix of technique, creativity and perseverance. Behind each photo are hours, sometimes days of preparation and effort. Whether it's finding the right point of view, waiting for the perfect light or composing a balanced image, landscape photography is an art that requires time and thought.
Biography
Originally from Belgium and self-taught, I have been a landscape photographer since 2010. Passionate about nature and the mountains, I started this activity after my studies as a sound engineer. My love for nature blossomed while exploring the Dolomites and the South of France . Based in France in Avignon, I capture varied landscapes, from the ponds of Occitanie to the mountains of the Alps and Scotland . In 2022, I received a special prize at the " The International Landscape Photographer of The Year " competition, followed in 2023 by an award at the " UK Landscape Photographer of the Year ". These distinctions encourage me to pursue new artistic explorations.

What attracted you to landscape photography?
Since I was young, I have always been fascinated by nature and the great outdoors. My camera quickly became a way to capture the beauty I saw around me and share it with others. I love the idea of freezing a precise moment, a unique light or atmosphere, that might otherwise go unnoticed.
What is your favorite landscape photography location?
It’s hard to choose just one place, but I have to say that Scotland and its Highlands hold a special place in my heart. The dramatic skies and raw nature of this region inspire me greatly. The Dolomites in Italy, with their rugged peaks, vast valleys and constantly changing light, also create scenes that have left their mark on me.
How to take a beautiful landscape photo?
To take a beautiful landscape photo, choose ideal lighting (sunrise or sunset), careful composition (rule of thirds, vanishing lines) and good framing to enhance the scene. Play with contrasts, depth and don't hesitate to wait for the perfect moment to capture the emotion of the place. I also raise this question in depth in this article .
How to differentiate yourself from other landscape photographers?
Beyond technique, a good landscape photographer knows how to capture the soul of a place, translating its emotions and unique vision through his images. He knows how to spot details or moments that tell a story.
Landscape photography requires a lot of time and persistence, as the best shots may require waiting for the perfect light or returning to the same location multiple times.

Patience, An Essential Quality
In a fast-paced world, being a landscape photographer requires a different pace. Waiting for the fog to clear or be present, or for the sun to break through the horizon can take hours, but it’s those moments of waiting that make each shot unique. To learn more, check out my article on the importance of patience in landscape photography.
Light, A Source of Emotion
Light is the key element for a landscape photographer. Whether it’s a golden sunset, a dramatic sky before a storm, or the first light of dawn, each light condition creates a particular atmosphere. I explore this topic in detail in this blog post on light in landscape photography .
Composition, A Visual Language
A great composition directs the eye and tells a story. Every element in the frame should have its place. Leading lines, natural framing, and the rule of thirds are powerful tools for structuring an image. You can read my detailed tips in this article on landscape photography composition.
My Artistic Vision as a Photographer
My work as a landscape photographer is based on a deep connection with nature. To capture a single image, I sometimes climb peaks before dawn, face intense cold or wait patiently for hours for the perfect light to emerge. It is these moments of effort and communion with the landscape that give each photograph its intensity. I see landscape photography as a bridge between humans and nature. Each image I create is an invitation to contemplate, to feel, and perhaps even to reconnect with this world that we sometimes forget in our daily lives. Through my work as an artist photographer and my art photographs , I hope that everyone can invite a fragment of this nature into their home, in the form of a photo canvas or an art print.

My Landscape Photographer Blog
Beyond the images I capture, I also love sharing the stories that surround them. My landscape photography blog is a space where I share my adventures in the field, the challenges of shooting in nature, and my thoughts on this demanding art.
You will find travel anecdotes , photo tips , as well as behind the scenes of my expeditions, between mountains, forests and shores. Far from classic tutorials, it is a place of exchange and sharing where I invite you to dive into my photographer's gaze.
